Confusing-Looking Chords Made Easy
(Finally.)

Confusing chordsKnowing all the chords is important if you want to play in a key other than C/Am. Or if you want to play songs that are in the key of C/Am but happen to include a chord that’s not in the key. Like this:

Song in Am with out of key chord

A lot of people find confusing-looking chords hard and intimidating.
There are just so many different chords to learn, and they all seem unfamiliar. And those sharp and flat symbols just seem like too much to decipher.

So instead of tackling them head on, players shy away and stick to the same chords they already know: “Oh, there’s a Bm in this song? Nah, let’s play something else!”

You want to be able to play those songs fearlessly, so you need an easy way to learn all the chords.

You can do it

Think it’s too complicated to learn?

You can do this. I will show you how easy it can be.

The trick is in starting out with the chords you already know. Every difficult-looking chord is really just a slight variation of a chord that is already comfortable and familiar to you.

How to learn all the chords you’ll need to play in any key

The Beyond A Minor step-by step method teaches you to understand the basic principles for easily building these chords based on the chords you already know.

No memorizing pages of chords. No looking at charts to find the chord you need.

Just a simple system for building the chords you need based on the chords you already know and a laid-out-for-you program to actually incorporate these new chords into your playing.

FAQ

Who Is This Course For?

Beyond A Minor was created for piano students who can already play songs with the basic chords and would like to expand beyond the key of C / A Minor, or the other next easiest keys (Like G/Em, F/Dm).

After following the Beyond A Minor step-by-step system, you will know how to build all the chords you need to play in any key.

You’ll also gain experience actually playing all these chords through the songs contained in the course!

Why would I need to play in any key other than Am?

There are a few reasons you might want or need to branch out to other keys:

  • A lot of the available sheet music, especially that produced for specific albums, notates the music in the same key that the music was played on the album – and that’s usually not in C/Am! If you want to take advantage of the sheet music out there, you need to be comfortable playing in a variety of different keys.
  • The key of C/Am isn’t a good match for the singing range of the singer (whether that’s you or someone else).

You know how some songs are just too high to sing? Or too low? Yeah. That’s what you’re trying to fix here. Sing the song where it’s comfortable for you and play it in a key to match.

  • Some songs, even in the key of C/Am, contain one or more chords that aren’t actually in the key. Like this one, for example:

Another song in Am with a chord that’s not in the key

Most of the chords are the familiar ones you know. But what’s this? Gm? What do you do with that?

  • When you play with other people, they may be limited by the range or the easiest key in their instrument. And that key might not be C/Am.

For example, the Alto Sax is in the key of Eb. If the sax player can only play in C/Am, then in order to match up, the piano player needs to play in A/F#m.

  • Sometimes the key changes in the middle of the song.

And if you don’t know how to play in other keys . . . Well, that won’t work out very well!

  • If you compose music, you may find that branching out into other keys gives you fresh perspective and enhances your creativity.

How well do I need to play before taking this course?

You need to be comfortable playing a song using chords, and should be familiar with all the natural major chords (A, B, C, D, E, F, G).

Will this course teach how to transpose from one key to another?

Transposing music from one key to another key is a really important skill, and one that I use all the time!

The first step in this learning process is learning all the chords. That’s what Beyond A Minor is all about. You can’t progress to transposing if you don’t know how to play the chords in the new key.

The next step is learning how to actually map your music from one key into another. I hope to have a separate course to teach this vital skill in the near future!

Transposing from one key to another key is not included in Beyond A Minor. My goal is to keep each course to just one topic and at a manageable size so that you can complete it in a relatively short amount of time without getting stuck or overwhelmed.

Will I really be able to learn these weird-looking chords?

Yes! By the time you complete the course, these chords won’t even look weird anymore.🙂

I’m really busy. Will I be able to complete this course?

Beyond A Minor was created with busy people in mind. I am the mother of a very busy and hectic household, so I know how important it is to cut out the fluff and get to the critical stuff.

The videos are short and concise. The entire course can be done at your own pace.
